These elevator doors on the main floor feature bronze reliefs by artist and sculptor Albert Stewart. They depict six periods of history important to the county and city. Fun fact, when built, these elevators were the second fastest elevators in the nation. Only the elevators in the Empire State Building were faster.

WOODS USED IN SAINT PAUL CITY HALL – RAMSEY COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The seventeen-story City Hall and County Courthouse is home to a remarkable collection of rare and exotic wood. On each floor, throughout the hallways, courtrooms, and offices, are an extensive array of more than twenty distinct wood varieties. A few of these woods have become exceedingly scarce, making replacement impossible.

One particular highlight is the exquisite paneling found in the corridor connecting the mayor's office and the council chambers. Crafted from rare oriental wood imported from Australia, this material is renowned for its remarkable hardness and durability. During construction of the corridor, it was discovered only a 10-foot section of the wood veneer could be cut before carpenters had to sharpen or replacement their saw blade!

Care of Ramsey County, here is a list of woods used on each floor:
