Visit to Second Hand Rose Antiques, Silver Bay, Minnesota

August 13, 2023 Nathaniel Barber

I’d driven by this place several times. Finally, on our trip to Wolf Ridge Summer Camp, I had the forethought to, when Second Hand Rose revealed itself on the break-neck highway 61, stop.

What a weird place! The parking lot is full of make-shift tables on sawhorses. The tables are full to tipping with overpriced collectible (and definitely not collectible) dish ware that had been rained on several times.

I wonder what they do they do when it rains? I guess, pull those big tarps out from under the tables.

Never bought anything here. Just fascinated by this oddly curated selection of nonsense. There’s a great selection, if you can afford it.

Maybe it’s just me, but every time I drive by Second Hand Rose Antiques, I imagine one of the cars barreling down highway 61 just easing off the highway into the parking lot. What a way to go.
